Two BSF jawans injured in militant attack in Assam

DIPHU (Assam): Two BSF jawans escorting polling personnel were injured when suspected Karbi Longri National Front (KLNLF) militants ambushed them in central Assam's Karbi Anglong district on Friday.

Police said the militants exploded a powerful IED and fired at the BSF jawans escorting officials from four polling stations, at Chokikhola under Bokajan police station at around 5:35 am.

The jawans also retaliated and the exchange of fire went on for some time before the militants retreated.

The polling personnel, who were coming from three poling stations in Bokajan and one from Diphu with EVMs, were all safe and deposited the EVMs at the district headquarters Diphu.

The two injured jawans were taken to neighbouring Golaghat district hospital.

Yesterday, BSF jawans guarding a polling station at Kharsing Athoi school in Karbi Anglong district exchanged fire with the ultras. The security personnel had also unearthed an IED planted in the area.
