TEZPUR, June 8 – In a tragic road accident five All Adivasi Tribes Students Association (AATSA) activists died, four of them on the spot, and nine others seriously injured when a truck bearing registration No. AS-25-C-5451 collided head-on with a Tata Sumo with registration No. AS-06-F-5754 hired by an AATSA workers team, at Tezpur Baruachuburi on NH-52 near Kocharigaon Police outpost at about 10.45 pm last night. AATSA workers team was coming back from Lakhimpur after attending the Martyrs’ Day programme of the organisation held in Lakhimpur.
Though at first the injured were rushed to the Tezpur Kanaklata Civil Hospital following critical condition, five of them were shifted to GMCH. One of them reportedly succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased were identified as Ajit Munda, asstt. general secretary of Dibrugarh district, AATSA, Narayan Das member, Dikom Regional Unit, AATSA, Babu Patra and Raja Baidya driver of the vehicle) while the injured were identified as Prakash Kurmi, Dipjyoti Kurmi, Buten Kurmi, Kamal Kurmi, Niranjan Rajwar, Kison Munda, Pabitra Das and Binanda Patra.
The person who died in GMCH is yet to be identified.
Meanwhile, following the incident a pal of gloom prevails among different organisations and Prahlad Gowala, president of the organisation and AASU, AJYCP of Sonitpur District committee conveyed their deep condolences to the bereaved families.
Meanwhile, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has mourned the tragic death of the AATTSA leaders. In a condolence message, the AASU has conveyed its sympathy to the members of the bereaved families.
The students’ body has also mourned the death of its former executive committee member Mukesh Agarwalla of Morigaon.
