Asom Rang Utsav from September 18

GUWAHATI, Sept 16: The six-day Asom Rang Utsav, organized by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Government of Asom, will commence on September 18. This was announced at a press conference by State Cultural Affairs Minister Bharat Chandra Narah in Guwahati today.

Appraising the media about the slew of projects that his Ministry has taken up, Narah said,“Rs 40 crore has been sanctioned by the Government for the financial assistance of 40 xatras. The State Museum College which is under construction in Panjabari will be named after noted artiste Rudra Baruah. Even the rehearsal hall and the guest house that are under construction behind Rabindra Bhavan will be named after Rudra Baruah.”

The Minister also announced the ambitious plan of setting up a state-of-the-art State Museum at Srimanta Shankardev Kalakshetra.“Besides this, the Government will set up a Central Library at the Kalakshetra for which one bigha land has already been alloted,” said the Minister.

Narah also said the State Government will now give away the Madhabdev Award every year. The project to construct a Sati Joymoti Kalakshetra at Sivasagar has now been taken up by the DoNER Ministry, he added.

Upgradation of rural libraries, promotion of tourist spots and conservation of heritage temples are other projects being pursued by the Government, said Narah. THE SENTINEL
