Disqualification of candidate sought

DIBRUGARH, Sept 12: The defeated congress candidate Abdul Matlib, of ward no. 9 has approached the Dibrugarh Session Court seeking disqualification of the elected independent candidate Parvez Ahmed on ground of misrepresentation.

Abdul Matlib, alleged that Parvez Ahmed has entered his father’s name as Elahi Seikh, whereas in reality Ahmed’s father’s name is Derajuddin Ahmed. This fact, Abdul Matlib claims, came to light only on the issuance of the election notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner, Dibrugarh. How this fact escaped the eyes of the Congress and other contesting parties at the time of scrutiny of nomination papers however remains a mystery.

Incidentally, the name Elahi Seikh, is the name of the notorious drug peddler who is presently absconding. THE SENTINEL
