JORHAT, Sept 14: The times today are reminiscent of the golden period of Asomiya literature, said president of Axom Xahitya Xabha, Rong Bong Terang at the inauguration of an office of the Jorhat branch of the xabha at the Radha Kanta Handique Bhavan recently.
Terang after inaugurating the office said that, Asomiya literature had come into its own and was attaining greater heights. He asked all those who were present to contribute and enrich the literature of Asom.
Under the Snehbandhan programme of Axom Xahitya Xabha, freedom fighter Horu Bapu Saikia and former teacher of Borholla Higher Secondary School, Sonadhar Rajkhowa were felicitated.
A book of Asomiya poems, Jili Mili Jonakote composed by Amar Asom reporter Kabir Saikia was also released on the occasion.
Nagen Bora, president of the Jorhat branch of Axom Xahitya Xabha presided over the meeting while Debojit Bora, general secretary of the Jorhat branch anchored the meet.
Dr Parmanand Rajbongshi, general secretary of Axom Xahitya Xabha, writer and physician Dr Nirmal Sahuwal and Xatriya culture research scholar Dr Nirupoma Mahanta were among those who attended the function. THE SENTINEL
