GUWAHATI, Sept 12: Along with the rest of the world, UNESCO Association, Guwahati (UAG), also observed World Literacy Day recently. A meeting was organized on the occasion at Little Flower School, Nagaon. According to a press release, the meeting was presided over by the school principal Pessy Stanley.
Reader of Law of Gauhati University and chief co-ordinator of UNESCO Association, Guwahati, Dr Ramesh Chandra Barpatragohain said that UNESCO, which is the lead agency for the UN literary decade (2003-12) co-ordinating efforts of diverse partners, is also developing new tools to measure the impact of the literacy campaign and programmes.
UNESCO Association general secretary Dr Aswini Sarma, while giving a brief description about the significance of the day, said that energetic action was required to educate and empower people so as to start a global process of human development for all. THE SENTINEL
Rockybul inaugurates websites for Kaziranga

BOKAKHAT, Sept 12: Asom Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain inaugurated two websites –– www.KazirangaElephantfestival.com and www.WorldHeritageKaziranga.com–– in a meeting which was attended by Bokakhat SDO(C) and KNP director Dr SK Buragohain, MK Mahanta and Bokakhat Eastern Assam Wildlife Division DFO B Gogoi. The meeting was presided over by Assam Tourism director Deepak Kumar Goswami.
Hussain, in his inaugural speech, appealed to the people gathered in the meeting to help the government in preserving the flora and fauna of Kaziranga. THE SENTINEL
