JORHAT, Sept 16: The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) activists and local people of the Chief Minister’s home constituency, Titabor, organized a massive protest against the Government’s inactivity over the Asom-Nagaland border disputes. Protesting against the indifferent attitude of both the Central and the State Governments, the AJYCP activists staged a sit-in demonstration at the Titabor Press Club premises today and demanded of the Asom government to take immediate steps in this regard.
More than two hundred people of Titabor participated in the demonstration and strongly condemned the role of the Asom Government on the border issue. The people also vehemently criticized the apathy of the Chief Minister towards the problems of the people residing in the bordering areas since decades.
At the meeting, former principal of Titabor Nanda Nath Saikia College, Kedernath Pande, said, “The Government has failed to protect the life and property of those living in the bordering areas.”
Senior citizen of Titabor, Mahendra Saikia, criticized the failure of the Asom police to protect the land and property in the border areas. He also condemned the failure of the Asom police in Ougurijan area during a clash between the Naga people and the AJYCP activists on the issue of erecting a signboard.
Secretary of the Sadou Asom Dhulia Sanmilan, Sau Debendra Charan Boruah, strongly condemned the failure of the Asom Government to protect the territory of the State. He said that the anti-social activities in the bordering areas have increased and are being carried out under the very nose of the Assam Police.
Meanwhile, the Parishad also submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister, demanding an immediate solution to the problem, issue of an inner-line permit and protection of life and property of the dwellers in the bordering areas. THE SENTINEL
