Move for national animal status to cows

BOKAKHAT, Dec 22: The Northeastern Mission Team of the Go-yatra is supposed to arrive at Bokakhat on December 31 as a move to upgrade the status of cows to be declared as the national animal. A public meeting will be held on the occasion at the Satya Narayan Sewa Mandir premises.

The meeting will be attended by many along with the Xatradhikars of Majuli. The Northeastern Mission team began its journey from Dhubri Xatrasal yesterday and will complete its journey at Parsuram Kunda on January 14, 2010.

NSUI visiting State colleges

GUWAHATI, Dec 22: Assam State committee of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) has started visiting various colleges in the State to establish work culture among the students. The committee will be conducting visits to regulate various classroom facilities, hostel facilities etc.

As a part of this visiting drive, NSUI State president Dr Joy Prakash Das along with Gauhati University general secretary Pallavi Saikia visited North Lakimpur College, North Lakimpur Girls’ College and the North Lakimpur Commerce College today and the Dhemaji College yesterday. During the visit, Dr Das said that the ruling government was keen on the development of the education sector in the State and had been undertaking various steps for its development.

He also said the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress Government has recently decided to present laptop computers instead of Personal Computers to the first division holders of HSLC examination to initiate proper utilization of the equipment.

Foundation of Kaziranga Elephant Festival laid

BOKAKHAT, Dec 22: Golaghat DC Harem Bora laid the foundation stone of the eight Kaziranga Elephant Festival 2010 on the Mihimukh Festival ground recently. During the foundation laying ceremony, the DC called upon all the people to fully co-operate with the celebration committee of the Kaziranga Elephant festival for its successful completion.

The elephant festival will be held for four days begining from January 3, 2010. THE SENTINEL
