28 Basar: Gojen Gadi Vs Dakter Basar Vs Yomkar Riba

Despite rains playing spoilsport in campaigning, the mood is upbeat in all the camps of 28 Basar Assembly constituency. The Congress is represented by Gojen Gadi, the incumbent MLA, a businessman-turned-politician. His association with the party can be traced way back into the mid-80s.

Gadi was a Zilla Parishad member and its district vice-president. Twice he lost in the elections to the Assembly. Reportedly with no anti-incumbency stress, however, Gadi’s area specific development agendas have been under scanner. But at the end that matters, his party workers are happy with his performance as their representative.

Fighting the polls on developmental plank is All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) candidate Dakter Basar, one of the nine women contestants in the fray this election. Married to Dr T Basar, Director Health Services, she was one of the Congress ticket aspirants. After denied the congress ticket, she joined AITC.

Basar was a brilliant student and known for her association with many social organizations working against ills like polygamy and child marriage.

Also in the fray is from Basar is Yomkar Riba (49), representing the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Riba is a graduate and was actively involved in student politics with a major stint in the NEFA Students union of yesteryears. Before embarking on the election trail, he was president of the West Siang unit of NCP. His background as a social activist, who has been in the field makes him a tough opponent. THE SENTINEL
