ITANAGAR, Oct 8: Tensions raged on October 4 last in Tezu when the district magistrate had to clamp curfew following clashes between rival party supporters, which is yet to simmer down completely. Otherwise calm and quiet, Tezu has been polarized and tensions brimming with Karikho Kri of INC and Nakul Chai of AITC muscling out against each other in a straight fight.
Karikho Kri undoubtedly has an edge over Chai as the sitting MLA. He had even managed to muster the party ticket, which was also claimed by Chai, an INC veteran and a former minister.
If performance is counted, Kri is claimed to have brought in several developmental packages in the last five years. However, in parameters the public memory cannot be vouched for, and in that case, Chai may have the last say this election for he is certain to rake up issues untouched by the sitting MLA.
Nakul Chai with lot of experience as a former RWD and Forest Minister is viewed among his supporters as a clean politician and successful in implementing Central and State Government schemes. The people of the area are mostly dependent on PDS commodities for their daily life and Chai is credited for having implemented it efficiently during his tenure.
The countdown to the election contest in Tezu between Kri and Chai will be nail-biting as both of them are political giants unto themselves in the area. the sentinel
