ITANAGAR, Oct 8: The State Congress unit is certainly dejected by the Rain God’s disposal of its campaign schedule by party heavyweights in the last couple of days. Weather played spoilsport to the visit of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi to two important constituencies of the State on Tuesday while the campaign tour of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to Aalo and Daporijo was called off today due to inclement weather conditions.
In a hurriedly arranged press conference today, APCC president Nabam Tuki expressed regret on cancellation of their election trip to Aalo and Daporijo today and taunted the weather-gods for it.
Tuki, who is also the PWD Minister, lambasted ASMs and GPMs and other party workers for allegedly working against party candidates in different constituencies of the State. He said that several BCC and DCC presidents from across the State had complained of such anti-party activities in the run-up to the Assembly elections.
Sounding serious, Tuki warned ‘the workers’ of serious disciplinary action and asked them to mend their ways immediately. He has already authorized the DCC presidents to issue show-cause notices to individuals involved in anti-party activities.
While exhorting the party workers to work unitedly, the State party president requested them to put a joint effort to ensure victory of the 57 INC candidates.
Replying to a query about NCP and Union Minister of State for Rural Development Agatha Sangma’s claim that her party will win 10 to 12 seats this election, Tuki termed these as preposterous and highly unattainable.
Taking a dig at the NCP leaders, Tuki claimed that in Sagalee and Mengio only about 100 people turned up to attend the NCP rallies.
Cautioning the visiting leaders not to spread rumours on NREGA schemes in their election rallies, he said that the scheme was already under implementation long before she became a minister.
Tuki further alleged that choppers chartered by NCP had landed at the general ground in many places instead of landing at designated airfields without permission.
Alleging NCP workers of violating the model code of conduct by openly distributing cash at Mengio, Tuki said that his party would take up the matter with the observers and the Election Commission. THE SENTINEL
