NARI KOYU, Oct 8: Despite heavy downpour of rain, hundreds of supporters of Kenryir Ringu, NCP candidate for Nari Koyu, braved it with smile and enthusiasm. Pitted against INC heavyweight Tako Dabi, Ringu’s campaign momentum got a shot in the arm with the arrival of Union State Minister Agatha Sangma and her father PA Sangma. Accompanying them were state unit President L Wanglat and Thomas Sangma, Rajya Sabha MP of Meghalaya.
Speaking on the occasion Agatha exhorted the electorate to vote for Ringu and promised to extend all possible help to accelerate developments projects in the legislative constituency since NCP is a part of the UPA government at Centre. While appealing to the voters to cast their votes for ‘ghari’ symbol, the elder Sangma reminded the people that all important and relevant ministerial portfolios like Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Rural Development etc are held by the NCP leaders, therefore, people should vote for Ringu, who herself has proved her leadership in women movement of the State. Veteran Sangma also said Ringu is capable and competent to be a Cabinet minister if the NCP becomes a partner of the government in the State.
Wanglat forewarned the voters that other parties might try to lure with money but they should remember to vote for NCP and for Kenyir Ringu.
The situation in Nari Koyu Assembly Segment is summed up by one of the INC workers who had come to witness the rally. “The turnup may have been good, but the battle is not that easy for either of them,” he said. THE SENTINEL
