Khandu unmoved by aborted star campaigns

ITANAGAR, Oct 8: Upset but unmoved is Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu with the aborted campaigns by INC top leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi.

Exuding confidence, he told media persons this afternoon that cancellation of the visits of high-profile party heavyweights would not hamper the INC’s electoral chances in the ensuing elections. He said the people of the State have a close affinity with Congress leaders and the party which has always given top priority to the State.

Hitting back at the BJP for terming the three uncontested victories of INC in Tawang district as a ‘murder of democracy’, Khandu challenged the saffron party to field a worthy candidate against him.

“If they (BJP) have a worthy candidate, I am more than willing to fight the elections,” he retorted.

Warning the BJP not to malign him or his party, Khandu asserted he has not compelled anyone to file nominations against him and repeated that if the Opposition has anybody worthy, he is ready to slog it out in an electoral battle.

Khandu also dismissed Opposition allegations that the government is not implementing Central schemes properly in the State. He said that Arunachal was the only State where a third party monitoring system has been implemented to oversee all Central schemes. THE SENTINEL
