Voting through postal ballots

ITANAGAR, Oct 8: A total of 372 postal ballot papers were cast today at Bomdila in West Kameng district taking the total of the last three days to 635. The facility to cast vote through postal ballot papers for officials on poll duty would be available till October 12 next. A total of 760 personnel are on poll duty for the 152 polling stations in the district.

In a press release, the district administration today said despite incessant rains since Monday, the district election machinery is making an all-out effort for smooth conduct of the elections. Taking no chances, polling parties for far-flung polling stations have been directed to move in advance. Of the 152 polling stations (two auxiliaries), the polling station at Rowta Range Office under 5-Kalaktang (ST) Assembly Constituency is 373 km by road from the 5-Kalaktang ARO’s office and Dilling Primary School under 7-Bomdila (ST) Assembly Constituency is 40 km foot march from the nearest road head. Fifty-two polling parties would move out of their respective AROs and AERO offices on October 11 and the rest 100 polling teams with their polling materials would depart the next day.

In Dibang Valley the second day casting of postal ballots ended today at Anini, the district headquarters. Altogether 34 poll officials exercised their democratic franchise, said ERO Talom Dupak.

With today’s casting, the total number of poll cast has raised to 141 by duty-bound poll officials under 41-Anini assembly constituency.

Despite heavy downpour, the first batch of polling teams have left today for their polling booths on foot march, after waiting nearly three hours for the Indian Air Force chopper. The team members would take five days to reach their destinations after traversing through hostile terrains. THE SENTINEL
