5 Kalaktang: RK Khrimey (NCP) Vs Tenzing Norbu Thongdok (INC)

Serene and picturesque Kalaktang on the westernmost part of Arunachal, bordering Bhutan, at a height of approximately 1113 metres above sea level, usually has a cool temperature around this period of year. But this year, it is an exception. RK Khrimey, once a powerful Congress Cabinet minister, is fighting the biggest political battle of his career. Before the electoral battle began, he lost the first round when he was denied INC nomination despite being the sitting MLA. However, he is an old-war horse with many a tricks up his sleeves. Positive sides of Khrimey are many, but he is more popular as one of the better educated, well-read and well-travelled seasoned politicians of Arunachal Pradesh. Khrimey had served the State in various political capacities and had done admirably well for himself all throughout his political career.

But as NCP’s candidate, he has reasons to have sleepless night.

Up against him is Tenzing Norbu Thongdok as INC nominee. He is making his maiden entry to electoral politics with full might and support of Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu. After superannuating from government service in March 2009 as Secretary Power of the Government of Arunachal, he actively built up his political base in the Assembly segment right from Panchayat Election of 2008 as well Parliamentary Election 2009.

His biggest contribution to the State during long career as technocrats of the State Government is legendary; for, it was during his tenure that State Government signed the much discussed series of MoUs with the leading power developers.

Given their credentials, whosoever wins shall be a worthy representative of the constituency; and whosoever loses shall be missed a lot. 9 Chayang THE SENTINEL
