ITANAGAR, Oct 9: Khonsa West will see a four-cornered contest for the first time in its history. Dejected after being denied a Congress ticket this election the two-time legislator of INC, Thajam Aboh (47), is contesting as the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) nominee.
Before embarking on electoral politics, Aboh, a graduate, served the government as a District Adult Education Officer.
Jitbo Aboh is amongst the nine women contesting for this election from across the State and the only one from this constituency. An NCP nominee, she also had a stint with the State Government as an employee with the ICDS as field staff. Aboh has studied up to class X and hopes to become the first woman minister from Tirap if the fortune favours her and her party. Her mantra this election is promises of bringing development to Dadam area, her native village in sectors like connectivity and administrative infrastructure.
The ruling party is represented by Yumsem Matey, who hails from Lazu. In 2004 elections he had unsuccessfully contested against the incumbent MLA Thajam Aboh. His choice by the Congress in providing the party ticket is seen by most as his rising in popularity in the last five years enhancing his winnability in present circumstances.
The saffron brigade in Khonsa West is led by Langwang Sumpa as the BJP’s official nominee, a first timer. THE SENTINEL
