Drunken jawan opens fire into air

MANGALDAI, Oct 11: The firing of three rounds of bullet into air by a drunken jawan of Home Guards deployed in the panic-gripped area of Batabari village on NH 52 under Dalgaon police station in Darrang district this evening has created strong sensation in the locality. As reported the jawan namely Apurba Pathak while on duty to protect the villagers who witnessed the black days of recent group clashes had gone to a nearby village and consumed illicit country liquor and had heated altercation with a section of villagers. The jawan immediately made his way to his camp and opened three rounds from his .303 rifle thereby creating a panic and terror among the villagers. On receipt of the information, Darrang Additional Superintendent of Police Haren Tokbi immediately rushed to the spot to tackle the situation. Meanwhile, talking to The Sentinel Darrang Superintendent of Police Imdadul Hussain Bora said that the jawan would be arrested on the basis of the FIR lodged by the villagers. THE SENTINEL
