GUWAHATI, Oct 9: Former secretary of Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra Gautam Sharma has come out in the open by stating that the fund misutilization charges against him are ‘totally baseless’. Addressing a press conference today, Sharma said he has been ‘framed’ as the charges against him are ‘untrue’.
A CBI chargesheet was recently filed against Sharma and two others for allegedly misappropriating funds meant for the construction of a doll museum at the Kalakshetra. It was alleged that Sharma had misappropriated a fund of Rs 48,95,08 sanctioned by the Indian Museum for the said project. But Sharma refuted these allegations. He said he had worked as per guidelines and had submitted a complete account of the doll museum project to the authorities concerned. The Lalit Kala Academy had released also Rs 25 lakh for organizing the National Art Festival at the Kalakshetra in 2006. It was alleged that Gautam Sarma had failed to give the details of expenditure of Rs 7.5 lakh.
Besides, it was also alleged that the IGNCA had also given Rs 11.42 lakh for organizing the Pandu Lipi Mission during 2008-09. To this Sharma said, ‘‘I did not receive any money for Pandu Lipi Mission during my tenure.’’
Reacting to Cultural Affairs Minister Bharat Chandra Narah’s statement that the Ministry had nothing to say in this regard, Sharma said he is not guilty and pleaded for a State Government inquiry into the matter. THE SENTINEL
