GUWAHATI, Nov 16: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that the Congress in the State would make it to Dispur with a huge victory in 2011 Assembly elections, thus setting a ‘‘hat-trick’’ record.
Talking to The Sentinel after the meeting of Council of Ministers at the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) conference hall at Dispur today, Gogoi said: “There is no plan for any Cabinet reshuffle at present.”
When some reporters wanted to know if the newly elected MLAs — Wazed Ali Choudhury and Bhimananda Tanti — would be inducted in the Cabinet, Gogoi said: “They have just taken oath. Let’s see.”
Gogoi said a number of AIUDF and AGP MLAs have sent feelers to him about their interest to join the Congress with the condition that they have to be given Congress tickets in the 2011 Assembly elections in the State. “I haven’t given them any assurance as yet,” Gogoi said, and added: “We have a lot of things to do in the remaining one-and-a-half years. The people’s acceptability of the Congress has gone up. We will surely do a hat-trick and make it to Dispur with a huge victory in 2011.”
Soon after the meeting of the Council of Ministers, State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bharat Chandra Narah said: “The Council of Ministers reviewed the progress of all developmental schemes going on in the State. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi made it clear that all developmental schemes should be covered in the supplementary demands to be placed before the Assembly in its session slated from December 7. The Chief Minister said the bicycle scheme for Class VIII girl students and free-of-cost thread to women should be revived. He set November 2010 as the deadline for various departments of the State Government for completion of all developmental schemes. This apart, the Chief Minister will announce a slew of developmental schemes to be implemented in the State soon.” THE SENTINEL
