Christmas-eve today, celebrations start

ITANAGAR, Dec 23: Christians of Itanagar under the banner of Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF) celebrated pre-Christmas on Tuesday evening here at State banquet hall, which was joined by Education Minister Bosiram Siram, PWD and UD Minister Nabam Tuki, local MLA Techi Kasso and others. Addressing the Christian brethrens, Siram emphasized that Christmas emphasizes the message of peace and self-giving.

“Jesus Christ by his example showed us that there is nothing greater than giving one’s self for the sake of others. That is what we are called to do when we celebrate Christmas,” he said.

Rev Fr Jacob Mattathilany, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Itanagar, drew attention that Christmas has followed the just concluded United Nations conference on Climate Change. Endorsing the global concern on climate change and its after effects. He urged all to explore ways to make lives more environment friendly so that the next generation is provided with a safe planet to live in. Rev Modam Dini also called upon the believers to lay importance on uplift of spiritual values so that Christmas celebration is fruitful in real terms. The celebration, organized under the supervision of ACF president Khyoda Apik and general secretary Toko Teki, included cutting of cake, carol singing and dances by youths. THE SENTINEL
