4 Excise officials suspended over liquor tragedy

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, April 7 – The Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur Sri Jayant Narlikar has suspended four officials of the Excise department in the wake of the spurious liquor tragedy that had claimed several lives on April 5. The suspended officials are Excise Superintendent Padmeswar Pegu, Excise Inspector Dulal Sharma, Excise Assistant Inspectors Jayanta Chaudhuri and Ananda Borah (Sadar). The officials were suspended for their complicity in duty and failure to detect the poisoning liquor.

A magisterial inquiry has also been set up by the district administration under Revenue Circle Officer Tripurendra Patir. He has been asked to submit his report by April 10.

Meanwhile, the Superintendent of NL Civil Hospital Dr Ananda Dihingiya said that there has been no further death due to spurious liquor since yesterday. The admitted patients have been recovering from their complicacies. ASSAM TRIBUNE
