India collecting report on arms from B’desh ‘meant for ULFA’

NEW DELHI, April 20: A National Security Intelligence of Bangladesh (NSIB) official has been recently arrested in Chittagong in Bangladesh in connection with the sensational seizure of 10 truckloads of weapons, believed to be destined for ULFA militants in Asom and other parts of the north-eastern region. Sources in the Bangladesh embassy in Delhi revealed that a senior Bangladeshi intelligence official had been arrested as investigators found clues of his involvement in the transhipment of arms. After the spread of this report in the national capital, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has become active and started to collect information of the incident. A senior intelligence official said: “We are in touch with our intelligence officials abroad, but not in a position to say anything on this development.” Sources further said that the weapons were believed to be bound for ULFA hideouts in north-eastern region. The 10 truckloads of weapons, which included over 27,000 grenades, 150 rocket launchers, over 11 lakh ammunition and 1,100 sub-machine guns, were seized after the arms were unloaded at a government jetty recently.
